PC Gone Mad
Just finished watching The Abyss, since it was on TV (it's OK as a movie, it was just on...)
Anyway, the end came and I thought "huh?"
Some joker had edited out all the scenes where the aliens raise giant waves to crush humanity, meaning at the end we were left with the alien craft rising, and the movie just ending. Not only is this offensive to the movie as it completely destroys one of its main themes, but why show the movie at all if you're going to remove one of the main parts just because some people might get offended? Clearly people can't move on. Ridiculous.

I don't think anyone even remembers the Asian tsunami. As natural disasters go, it was terribly dull. And as far as I know, these TV viewers who don't know the difference between reality and fiction don't even exist, so I don't know why they keep censoring things for them.
Next they'll be dubbing over the word "Pope" in any films shown on TV that happen to use it, and deleting scenes that include plugs (Terri Schiavo had the plug pulled on her - people are bound to make that connection). It really makes me angry when they do this, and I'm just glad I don't particularly like The Abyss and decided not to watch it.
Then again, what I did watch (the Top 50 Comedy Sketches) made me even angrier than I would have been had I watched The Abyss instead, especially since I've not seen the ending before and wouldn't have realised it had been altered. Still, I'd have been left with an abrupt ending of Godfather II and All The President's Men proportions, and we're back to me being angry again. Couldn't have been as anti-climatic as Lou-and-fucking-Andy though.
To go off the point completely; this sychophantic spewage makes me sick.
I'm also slightly irritated that they wouldn't put up any of my many tributes that I spent well over an hour submitting. Oh well, I may as well have a go on this one.

The Pope eh? Didn't he continue to deny Catholics the use of contraceptives, hastening the spread of AIDS? What a great man. To be honest I can't understand all these tributes. The Pope has never affected my life in the slightest, and that's not because I wasn't listening, he just didn't reach me. Apparently he was an "angel" according Altaf Noor Ali. I'll have to take his word for it because I don't think I ever heard him say or do anything of great import.

sex has allways been a touchy subject for the Christain Church I can't talk about the Pope much because I don't know that much and talking about something I don't know is well kind of dumb
EDIT: there's a good Spanish movie (Mar adentro) about euthanasia (wich is similar to the Terri Schiavo's situation)

Are you sure you didn't watch the original theatrical version and not the extended version?Jonathan Ingram wrote:Just finished watching The Abyss, since it was on TV (it's OK as a movie, it was just on...)

It's not like every Catholic is going to follow everything the Pope says. If a Catholic followed everything to the letter they wouldn't have sex before marriage so it wouldn't be much of an issue. But I'm sure it's not irresponible people hastening the spread of AIDS as opposed to Catholics not using contraceptives. The Pope eh? Yeah, terribly dull. I'm sure everyone would much rather see unnatural disasters like terrorists flying planes into buildings.I don't think anyone even remembers the Asian tsunami. As natural disasters go, it was terribly dull.
She wasn't on respirator so there was no plugs pulled. They removed a feeding tube.Terri Schiavo had the plug pulled on her - people are bound to make that connection

Re: PC Gone Mad
Well, that's true, but that's not what I meant. I did say "as natural disasters go." I was suggesting that most natural disasters have been more fun than the tsunami (mudslides, for example, are hilarious), not that unnatural disasters are always more fun than natural ones. In fact, terrorists are usually rather boring. When was the last time you saw a terrorist on the news who had the personality of, say, John Malkovich in Con Air?Omega579 wrote:Yeah, terribly dull. Re: PC Gone Mad
Malkovich is too fruity to be a terrorist. I prefer someone like Alan Rickman or Jeremy Irons on the Die Hard movies. Jeremy Irons had those cool math word problems that were both entertaining and challenging. In fact, terrorists are usually rather boring. As the appointed Grammar Policenaut, it is my duty to spread the joy of proper grammar. Knowing that everyone will try to catch your appointed Grammar Policenaut in a grammar mistake, your appointed Grammar Policenaut will insert grammatical errors from time to time for the keen eye to correct. I love this guy. But that's a battle that few win my friend. Judging that the internet is full of highschool dropouts, or people that favor that net dialect where you speak in nothing but pre-tensed initials.Omega579 wrote:As the appointed Grammar Policenaut, it is my duty to spread the joy of proper grammar. If spreading the joy of grammar is not getting through to those high school dropouts, then a weapon of ultimate grammar must be constructed for them to comply.Snake Plissken wrote: I love this guy. Wait, I feel a memory stirring... That's the original threatrical cut which has been shown on television countless times before, plain and simple. That's how it ends. Virgil goes down, disarms the bomb, meets underwater aliens who raise everyone to the surface and leave. The End. Those waves were later put back in the director's cut DVD. They were cut over a decade ago and whatever the reasons, I doubt the Asian tsunami had anything to do with it.Jonathan Ingram wrote:Just finished watching The Abyss, since it was on TV (it's OK as a movie, it was just on...)

You made me (indirectly) recall "Speaker for the Dead", the second book of the Ender series by Orson Scott card... (lots of interesting ideas there, I have a file with some of the quotes I liked somewhere....).Reborn from the Ashes wrote: People are almost always viewed in a kinder light after their death than they were when they were alive.
What you say is quite true... but what is attmpted in the book (not as the main theme, but as one of the sub-themes) is precisely to reach that balance after someone's dead.
From the mathematical perspective, consciousness might be regarded as a second derivative of sensation.

Very telling and true as Art said. That's why I plan to leave an evil existance, eating babies, beheading old folks, and impregnating as many virgins as I can...simply just because I CAN. And then when I die, I will have a 20 min. remberance montage and everyone will cry and all these people will say: "he was an inspiration, why do all the good people have to die (boo hoos throughout rome heard)." BUT THATS NOT ALL! The liberal media will make a day after me, and brandish my existance 24-7 throughout the month in more montages, and laser shows...cause well, this is how the world is.Reborn from the Ashes wrote:People are almost always viewed in a kinder light after their death than they were when they were alive.Jonathan Ingram wrote:The Pope eh?
