Re: Current Project Status (1/14/09): Alpha Testing

In all honesty, the problem is that Disc 2 is actually... well, much simpler than Disc 1. I'd expect if we managed to "clear" Disc 1, Disc 2 would fall really soon after anyway.

I think in the worst case, if for some reason Disc 1 were "ready for release" and Disc 2 were months away, we'd talk about that, but it's a really unlikely scenario.

Whatever though, because another bug is down, so we're in the final ten. Woohoo!

Great work guys! I was kinda worried it would get released this semester, which has been my most hectic ever, and my grades probably would have suffered ;) Its looking like I'll make it through the next 3 weeks policenauts free and be able to enjoy it sometime this summer. Thanks again Slowbeef, Marc, Artemio, and all others who have put in so much time and effort.

Heh, that's exactly how I feel as well. It'll be better to enjoy it during the summer. I'll have a lot more time on my hands that way.

I have to say, 9 bugs is horribly exciting, and seeing the topic title change again is a very nice bonus, In fact, it reminds me again of how much things have changed here.

Thanks again, Slowbeef and the entire translation team.

Sure, mainstream games are fun, but you haven't tried Snatcher yet.

Good thing I didn't shit myself when I saw the current number of bugs left to go.

Nine. Wow... That's like 1 less than 10, which is a 2-digit number. Fancy that!

I'm guessing you're pretty bored with all them questions about when it's gonna be finished etc. But I was wondering... If during beta testing no crippling bugs come across how long do you think we'll have to wait for a release?

Just thought I'd drop in and say hi. First time poster, long time lurker. It's gret that we're getting closer and closer to the release. As I am writing this, I'm sitting in my hotel room in Tokyo and I have to say. The first thing I did here was to hunt down a copy of Policenauts. Now, I'm a proud owner of the PSX and Saturn version. (And the Pc-Engine version of Snatcher!).

All the best to you guys and I hope we get the patch soon. Keep up the good work.

I have this dream that during beta, we're going to think "Wow, how smoothly is THIS going? No bugs at all!" Then I am making out with Scarlett Johannsen and Hideo Kojima is giving me tons of money and chocolate. And I say, "Nah Hideo if I eat that chocolate, it will ruin my washboard abs," and I pull up my shirt and all these girls swoon.

Yeah, I re-used that joke, so what?

I think during beta, I'll keep you guys abreast of the bug count like we're doing now - though I'd expect it to be a lot more dynamic as the bugs won't be as bad, but they'll be found more frequently. It's really my first video game project in general, much less as something as screwy as a ROM hack, so I dunno.

How long was that Tomato guy in Beta with Mother 3 or Gemini with Persona 2?

2.5 weeks for Mother 3. Persona 2 is a bit harder to estimate, I'd say it took about a month. I'd say it depends more on the testers and how much they contribute, than on your skills, Slowbeef.

It's strange! I picture all you guys sitting in a room toiling over the code, and trying all these different things. Is it like that, or do you guys just work your end and send it in? It's awesome either way, I can only imagine some of the stories, much like a band recording a record, tedious and sometimes awesome.

I've never met Marc or Artemio, and wasn't even sure where Marc lived until he told me yesterday. I do all my work at Starbucks. The entire staff knows me and that I'm "working on a game".

I get free coffee sometimes.

Yes I'd love to meet Marc and slowbeef sometime in the future, although the most probable scenario is that I'll go over to the US (or elsewhere! who knows?) and have a couple of beers with them =)

I'm just hope'n you don't accidently spill your coffee all over the laptop while doing an epic victory dance during the moment you finish the project...destroying the work.

I would probably kill myself. But I just backed up a lot of work yesterday, so even if my workstation died, we're recoverable.

Like everybody else I'd like to thank the team for their heartwarming work and dedication.
Also, having read the rest of the thread, can I say I hope you are using the scientifically tried and tested "cartridge/locker/deadly hamster" back-up method.

All the best!

FINALLY!
FINALLY THE PATCH!
Because I'm such a special and memorable member, the guys sent me the full english patch (even with possible bugs) to test the game. I'm so happy! The long wait is finally over :)
I don't care if it has one or two bugs, as long as I can play this wonderful game in english, that's all I want.
Thanks a lot to all the team, once again. I'm already at the end of Act 1~

PS - Please don't even try to PM me asking for the patch, I won't give it to anyone unless Artemio or Marc aprove, which I very much doubt. They don't like to receive annoying PMs.
