I think its good. Maybe now they will go back to the original control scheme. I always liked that about MGS and now in MGS4 its changed, because of this guy.Now when he is gone they might go back to the Japanese controls I liked to much.

yup, that's true... Rayn Payton was suggesting many "classic western videogame" things to KojiPro stuff for MGS4 and if i remember correctly he also had influence on MGS3 Subsistence for it's new 3D camera, also seen in MPO.
I think Payton made mainly good things to MGS4, and unlike many others here i don't dislike him.
KP reports were also something i miss.
Propably he wasn't the best PR guy, but he's suggestions on MGS4 new gameplay features was something that really needed to be done. I mean wouldn't that been too 90's if you had to press facebutton (square in past mgs games) to shoot a gun...?

That's the way it was, that's the way it was good. Back in Subsistance MGO for example. There was no over-the-shoulder shooting, it was all done the original way by pressing square at different pressures and aiming through the sites for a headshots. That is where real skill was, I see the people who play today MGO and all I see is noobs who take advantage of KP's listening to the fan population to make an easier way of shooting. Because they are too lazy or stupid to be able to shoot people the traditional way.

Maybe but i think MGO sucks anyways, whatever it's MGS3 Online or MGS4 Online...
MGS should always have been only single player game.
Besides i don't think Payton ever were the one resposible of MGO. And even if he would been the one, Konami would most likely released MGO with MGS3S even without him.

He was, actually. Kojima stated that in an interview.
@ topic: Without RP I'm wondering if Kojipro will recruit another western guy, since Payton was the mainly, if not the only, connection between most of the western press/audience and KojiPro.

That's true but before him there was Kojima himself giving interviews for western media.
And if you ask me, i enjoyed those much more than Payton interviews.

well, kojima said a little before mgs4 that the new moves would be because his military advisor said nobody kept standing against walls like snake. and you still need to press 2 buttons do shoot.
3d camera is better, anyway.

Of course they would have. They may not have had the new "western" style things like the 3D camera and the changes in buttons and shooting style in MGS4.

Maybe I didn't express very well my point.
RP was the only "direct" contact the press and the audience had with KojiPro, a japanese based corporation. He was always giving media support like the Podcasts, appearances on major events with MGS4 Info/Demo/etc, debunking rumours, and in a specific case, bringing new tidbits about the franchise in the localization of the KP Report sessions.
Other japanese companies doesn't give a similar support to the western audience on the same level than Konami/KojiPro made since Payton joined the company.
Of course Kojima has landed interviews to the western press and they are more atractive in terms of content, but Payton was more close to the western audience, he was like an ambassador of the company in our land, if you get the point.
I feel Ryan Payton's contributions to MGS4 has added to the success of the franchise.
With a 3d camera and making weapons become a more involved part of MGS4 as compared to other MGS, it was necessary to change the control scheme to an updated format.
Of course, this is my opinion, and that of most every reviewer that is praising MGS4s updating of the control scheme.
The KP Report will also be missed by us, since that was the only way we knew anything about what they were up to for years.
Hope everything works out for Ryan and his family.

MGO was on the cards before Ryan joined Konami. It started with people in Kojima's team spending time playing Counter-Strike during the day. Then Kojima said they should try and make a Metal Gear along those lines.

I remember MGO being mentioned in interviews with Kojima when he was promoting MGS2 (Online gaming was a much talked-about feature when the PS2 first came out, though it wasn't fully implemented until years later).

Yes, SOCOM was the first to actually use online play which made them the only online game on the block at the time. A very valuable marketing tool at the time but now every damn game has online, even if it is ridiculous for that game to have any sort of multiplayer at all.

Not wanting to sound like I'm nitpicking, but Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 was the first online game on the PS2. You could connect a Ethernet adaptor via USB. Online gaming didn't really take off until SOCOM came out, though.

I mean the fist massively played online combat game that was widely anticipated and played intercontinental.
Back to the topic, I was playing MGS4 yesterday and I decided to listen to Snakes iPod a bit. I found there was an integral podcast and Ryan Payton was one of the speakers. It appears he not only did the mentioned stuff but he did the podcasts on Snakes iPod.
Well, Doom was massively played, it was a combat game, and it was online internationally. Doom was incredibly anticipated (it crashed all the download servers when it came out).
But I see where you're coming from.
Life and Death hang in perfect balance...I'm only here to tip the scales.
