Snatcher radio play

Post by Marc »

From the Snatcher Sound Clip that was released several months before the PC Engine version...

02. Introduction

"Biohazard" (Zoom Tracks) starts.

Narrator:
June 6th, 1991. A mysterious explosion destroys the Chernoton Research Facility in Moscow. Lucifer Alpha, a powerful biological weapon under development there, is released into the atmosphere, creating a deadly biohazard. It spreads throughout Eastern Europe and Eurasia, wiping out eighty percent of the populace. Half the world's people die. This incident later becomes known simply as the "Catastrophe".

50 years later. Neo Kobe City, a place of madness and decadence. A new threat stalks its citizens -- strange bioroids that replace humans with indistinguishable duplicates. Employing an artificial skin, they can sweat, and even bleed. As they "snatch" their victims, they have come to be known as "Snatchers". But these creatures aren't perfect. Their skin is extremely sensitive to ultraviolet light. Mere sunburn is fatal to them. Is it a person, or a Snatcher? This fear has given rise to a different breed of police -- JUNKER, an anti-Snatcher task force comprised of specially trained killers. One man has recently been assigned to JUNKER, driven there by the darkness lurking within his amnesia.

His name? Gillian Seed.

"Biohazard" (Zoom Tracks) stops.

03. Short Story: Gillian's Nightmare (Part 1)

The sounds of a port can be heard in the background.

Gillian (v.o.):
My name's Gillian Seed. I'm a JUNKER, part of the city's anti-Snatcher unit. Today, like every other day, I walk the streets of Neo Kobe in our hunt for Snatchers. But...I'm tired... So tired...

...

"Twilight of Neo Kobe" (PCE/SCD) starts.

Gillian (v.o.):
I've been tracking this guy for the past week. They're careful. They don't make many mistakes. That's why once you've got a hold of one, you can't let go till it's dead. What day is it...? My watch stopped a good 3 days or so ago. I don't even know what time it is anymore. No, I gotta stay focused... If my instincts are right, he should be showing up here today.

"Twilight of Neo Kobe" (PCE/SCD) stops.

A door slams shut. Footsteps follow.

Gillian:
Hey Olegovich! Mind if we talk?

Olegovich:
Wh-who are you? What's going on?

There's an echo to their voices.

Gillian:
You know exactly what's going on. What do you say you and me go get some sun? Move!

Olegovich grunts as he's forced outside. There's a heavy downpour.

Gillian:
Rain...

04. Bonus Mini Drama: All Controversy Begins with Doubt

It's raining. Someone is running through the streets. A car strikes the runner.

Driver:
Hey, are you okay?!

A gunshot is fired.

Woman:
Damn!

The woman gets up and continues to run. People on the street can be heard talking.

Woman:
Somebody help me! This guy's trying to kill me!

Gillian draws his gun.

Gillian:
Move! She's a Snatcher!

People in the crowd scream. Another gunshot. The Snatcher is struck by the bullet and falls to the ground.

Snatcher:
(coughing)

Gillian:
Give it up. It's over.

Gillian points his gun at it.

Snatcher:
Never...JUNKER.

A final gunshot. The Snatcher screams.

Gillian (v.o.):
Just like all the others...

Police sirens draw closer.

Gillian (v.o.):
Why? Why do they always put up such a fight? Are they programmed that way? Or maybe...they have their own emotions?

The police arrive.

Policeman:
ID, please.

Gillian:
I'm a JUNKER. THX-205, Gillian Seed.

Gillian is having a drink back at his apartment.

"Theme of Katrina" (Radio Play) starts.

Gillian (v.o.):
Nights like these are never easy. Those things are just...too real.

Sound of mechanical footsteps.

Metal:
Gillian... Don't you think you've had enough to drink? Your current sleep debt stands at 15 hours.

Gillian:
All right, all right... Last one.

He finishes his drink. Metal Gear walks away.

Gillian (v.o.):
Sometimes Metal's worse than the Snatchers. He's good at what he does, but I feel like I'm married to him, the way he's constantly watching over you. That reminds me...

Gillian dials a number.

Gillian:
Jamie?

Jamie:
(groggy) Hmm...? Gillian? Do you know what time it is?

Gillian:
Sorry, Jamie.

Jamie:
(more awake) It's okay... What's up?

Gillian:
I was wondering if...you might wanna go do something tomorrow? Get out somewhere to take our minds off everything.

Jamie:
Sure, that sounds great, Gillian! Like where?

Gillian:
Hmm... Well, anywhere's fine as long as we're in the sun.

Jamie:
Th-the sun? Umm...I was thinking more like a movie, or...hey, how about a midnight cruise around the bay? What do you say, Gillian?

Gillian:
Yeah, that'd be great too. See you tomorrow night, then.

Gillian hangs up.

"Theme of Katrina" (Radio Play) stops.

Gillian and Jamie are out on a boat. Waves can be heard in the background.

Jamie:
(sighs) It's so nice out here... Wow, look at all the lights! Neo Kobe's not so bad when you see it like this, huh?

Gillian (v.o.):
Jamie's right. Makes you forget all about what's in it -- who's in it... How many of us have they already snatched...?

Jamie:
Gillian... You're thinking about the Snatchers again, aren't you? What's the point in coming out here if you're just going to drift off like that?

Gillian:
Sorry. I just keep thinking...maybe they have something to do with our memories.

Jamie:
Just give it time, Gillian. So...you're coming back to my place, right?

Gillian is taking a shower.

Gillian (v.o.):
Apparently Jamie and I were married before we lost our memories. I say "apparently" because all we know is we were wearing wedding rings with each other's name on them when we were discovered together. Being around Jamie helps me unwind.

He turns off the water and gets out.

Gillian (v.o.):
Hm...? Sunscreen? What's Jamie doing with sunscreen at this time of year?

Gillian and Metal arrive at a building. Gillian opens the door with his gun drawn.

Metal:
I read no lifeforms present, Gillian.

Gillian:
Damn. Maybe they're on to us. Or maybe they just stepped out... You sure this is the place?

Metal:
Yes, there is no doubt.

Metal walks around.

Metal:
Gillian, this part of the floor is different from the rest of the room.

Gillian:
What?

Metal:
There would appear to be a hidden room under the floor.

Gillian:
A basement?

They open the trapdoor.

Gillian:
(whew) What a stench. Hit your light, Metal.

They make a shocking discovery.

Gillian:
That would explain it... Metal, do an analysis.

"Pleasure of Tension" (PCE) starts.

Metal:
It is human remains. From the current state of decomposition, I would estimate it has been here for approximately 2 weeks. Cause of death appears to be internal bleeding inflicted by blunt force trauma to the head. Estimated age of victim -- 29. Hair -- blond. Sex -- female. Using available data to reconstruct victim's appearance... Reconstruction complete. Results on the display.

Gillian:
Dear god, no...

"Pleasure of Tension" (PCE) stops.

Gillian and Metal take off in the turbocycle.

Gillian pushes numbers on a door keypad.

Metal:
Gillian! This course of action cannot be condoned without a search warrant!

Gillian:
Can it! I don't need a warrant for my wife's place.

They enter and search Jamie's apartment.

Gillian:
What are these?

Metal:
They would appear to be medical receipts from visits to a dermatologist.

Someone opens the front door.

Metal:
Gillian! That's probably Jamie!

Gillian:
Hide!

Jamie walks through the apartment, humming to herself.

Metal:
(whispering) Gillian! Jamie's headed this way!

Gillian:
(whispering) Shut up!

Jamie heads toward their location.

Gillian:
This isn't good...

The phone rings.

Jamie:
Hello? Yes. No, Gillian doesn't suspect a thing. Yes. Understood. Will proceed according to plan.

Gillian:
Jamie...

Gillian emerges from his hiding place, drawing his gun.

Jamie:
Gillian!

"Theme of Ending" (Radio Play) starts.

Jamie:
You...you heard everything, didn't you?

Gillian:
Why... Why did this have to happen...

Jamie:
(coldly) The Jamie you loved is no longer in this world, Gillian Seed.

Gillian:
(enraged) Goddamn Snatcher!

That is some really nice work. Your transcribing is perfect.
Takes a little from Bladerunner there, eh? What, with the female Snatcher running through the crowd followed by a scene illustrating Gillian's remorse for killing something that seems so human.
Can't wait for part two, lol~

Excellent. Thanks very much for this. I've had those mp3s for some time, but never understood what they said, thank you!

This is not canon, is it? I mean, if it was supposed to be, there is a lot of retcons.

No, it's a gaiden.

And yeah, that scene in the streets is very Blade Runner.

Glad you guys like it!

Yes man, it is incredibel work as always =) Impecable lecture, it really grabbed me. I really felt just watching that precise Blade Runenr scene, mixed with that Snatcher twist.

The extra part with jamie's appartment did grab me in a way I didn't expect. I really felt for Gillian.

Which ending theme did they use? The original 2-part ending theme (Master of Puppets Among The Disease/We Have to Struggle for Our Future Against Our Doubt), or the newer one (Tear Stained Eyes)?

I just played the track again. I didn't remember the ending of that track in the Sound Clip =)

BTW, the track is Theme of Ending just as Osiris said. It is the original ending music from PC8801 and MSX2, just the version form the Snatcher (Radio Play) disc. the one called 新たなる戦い

Don't ask me why, but I always preferred the original ending theme over the one on the home console versions. Not that the new ending theme is bad, of course. Same thing goes for the original opening theme, as well.

I wouldn't say I prefer it myself, but I love both of them. I can see why you prefer it though, it fits the original ending like a glove.. also the intro. They give the game a more consistent feel.

I love Mr. Rudi's take on Twilight as well.

How would you guys like me and maybe a couple other guys voice this over and add the tracks and everything into an mp3 file?

We're not bad voice actors, but I've had a little cold lately.

I'm rather fond of his version of "Case Closed" myself.

Previously on Snatcher...

The phone rings.

Jamie:
Hello? Yes. No, Gillian doesn't suspect a thing. Yes. Understood. Will proceed according to plan.

Gillian:
Jamie...

Gillian emerges from his hiding place, drawing his gun.

Jamie:
Gillian!

Jamie:
You...you heard everything, didn't you?

Gillian:
Why... Why did this have to happen...

Jamie:
(coldly) The Jamie you loved is no longer in this world, Gillian Seed.

Gillian:
(enraged) Goddamn Snatcher!

Part 2

Jamie & Metal:
(singing) Happy birthday, Gillian! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday, dear Gillian! Happy birthday to you!

Gillian:
W-w-w-w-wait... What's going on?

Jamie:
What, you still haven't figured it out? Today's your birthday, so we set this whole thing up just to surprise you!

Gillian:
What...? So...that body we found yesterday?

Metal:
Yes, Gillian. It was a fake. Jamie asked me to help her... I was happy to oblige.

Gillian:
Huh? Wait, you mean you were in on it too? I don't believe this!

Jamie:
Did we give you a fright?

Gillian:
A fright? I'll give you a fright, you little... That was a pretty mean joke!

Gillian:
Hold on a minute... Jamie... How'd you know today's my birthday? We could never remember our birthdays before. Don't tell me...you got your memory back? You have, haven't you!

Jamie:
Yup! I remember everything.

Gillian:
That's great, Jamie! What brought it back? No, tell me about myself first! About my past!

Jamie:
(hesitates)

Gillian:
Jamie!

Jamie:
Oh Gillian... I think maybe you're...better off not knowing.

Gillian:
Jamie, please. I have to know about myself, about who I am.

Jamie:
All right, Gillian, but I think you'd better sit down...

Metal:
To be continued in the full game for the PC Engine this October!

Jamie and Metal are sick. They made Gillian think his wife had been murdered and he'd discovered her rotting corpse, haha! Pretty mean joke indeed. I'm sure a "lights flick on" surprise party would've sufficed for old G.

 If the Snatchers knew about Gillian's amnesia, they could have got a way with all sorts of crap. Just yell "Happy Birthday" and claim that the corpses were fakes, and he'll put down the blaster and start opening presents.

Ha! This was amusing. Jamie and Metal have a really fucked up sense of humour. I should play that trick on my mother sometime; play dead on the day before her birthday, which either will send her into depression and shock; then I jump out of the closet a day later saying, 'Hey, guess what, Mum? I'm not dead! Happy birthday! WOO!'

I'm sure I'd be hated forever for that.
