Excellent MGS2 analysis
James Clinton Howell (you might recall him from Deltahead translations) has posted an excellent formal analysis on MGS2. I highly recommend you read it.
http://www.deltaheadtranslation.com/MGS2/
It is really interesting in several ways I had not noticed form the game, and that firmly support my vision of the game as a piece of interactive digital expression that uses its form to convey it's message. But he is way more organized to express his ideas than what I was when I wrote my analysis.
Hope you guys enjoy it.

I've only read parts of it so far; some of it is rather interesting, some seems like over-analysis. I'll be posting a more thorough breakdown later.

Yeah, i also felt same when i first time played MGS2, i really didn't like it, i just said to myself, "this is no good, it's just like copy of MGS1, only graphics and gameplay are better, but still same."DarkTetsuya wrote:I always got the impression that MGS2 was trying to 'emulate' MGS1's layout in many ways, but that just confirms it (what with all the reimagined areas in MGS2 and their respective comparisons to the first game.)

Re: Excellent MGS2 analysis
This thread is old as fuck, but I feel it's worth mentioning that James Clinton Howell's name appears in the credits for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.
He was listed as a Script Editor or something along those lines.
I highly enjoyed his analysis of Sons of Liberty and definitely recommend it.
He's also writtn an analysis of MGS4's use of Memes from previous games.

Re: Excellent MGS2 analysis
If anyone's interested, the guys over at SuperBunnyHop have a great video analysis of MGS2.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-2YuPGYabw
He also has similar videos on the older games as well; i believe he's doing them all in order. Very well done.

Those SuperBunnyHop videos are awesome.
He makes some really great insights on MGS1 that never occured to me before.
