MGS2 ...KING??

MGS2, Big Shell
When resuing the hostages as Raiden, you overhear Ocelot and Solidus talking,
Solidus is refferred to as KING.
I am unfamiliar with this name, KING, attributed to solidus...
Has it been a name that was given during the Sears administration?
Or post to the shadow moses incident when solidus went into hiding?

Different members of Dead Cell are named after chess pieces. Fortune is Queen, but I'm not sure about the others. I think Fatman might be Bishop and Vamp might be Knight.

The rest are chess pieces according to their movement. Fatman is a rook (boss fight), Vamp a bishop (second boss fight), and Ocelot a knight (after he shoots Johnson). And Raiden is a pawn. :razz:

Isin´t Fortune the leader of Dead Cell, thus called Queen?

Yeah, like they said, Solidus is King and Fortune is Queen.

But why is Solidus called King? because he´s the second leader of Dead Cell? or because he´s a ex-prez?

Because in the simulation, he appears to be the leader.

Ok. I´m going to play MGS2 over again, and see if we are missing something

That does make sense. Solidus Snake is supposed to be playing the role of Liquid Snake in the simulation, isn't he?

I thought it was that Solidus was King, Fortune was Queen, Raiden was Jack (His name), and Snake was an Ace (Ace-in-the-hole).

That's right, there are two analogies, the chess pieces and playing cards.

Not to mention SEAL Team 10 being the expendable "spot" cards.

Also remember this quote;
"Even if a pawn becomes a queen, it never becomes a player"
This is also refferring to chess where it is possible to turn pawn(ordinary citizen) to queen(The President). However, even the queen is only controlled by the player.(<B>Patriots</B>)

Wow, really? When I read that I thought of the chess metaphor that Ames used;
Even if a Pawn becomes a Queen, it's still just a playing piece.
EDIT: oops, next time I should read the whole thread, seems someone beat me to it

I thought about the card metaphor and, could Ocelot be the joker ?
You know, because he calls Solidus "King" (The joker card often shows a court jester whom every king had during the Middle Ages) and because of the line Charades usually are humorous. I wouldn't have minded watching some more of it but we're running a little short on time...

I don´t know if you can say Ocelot is the joker, He betrayed Sergei and Solidus. Maybe he betrays the Patirots in MGS4. Who knows?

'King' was also the way the real Sons of Liberty addressed their leader.

Actually, wouldn't Plissken be the 'Joker'? being the "unknown factor" in the mission and all...

Snake being the Ace makes more sense, since he infiltrates the facility posing as a SEAL Team 10 member.

Oops, I guess I missed that. (So then I suppose Raiden is the Joker, with them not knowing how he's going to fare in this simulation?)

Since when has "Jack The Ripper" been a playing card?

I have a holographic first edition Jack the Ripper card. Looking to trade for a Charizard.
