Also stuck in the MSX version of Snatcher

Hello all. This is my first post. I'm a huge fan of the Metal Gear series, having played all the games so far, and have now delved into Snatcher (and hope to someday play Policenauts, whenever I stumble upon a translated version or learn Japanese

).
I beat the Sega CD version and was blown away, and am now playing it for the MSX. The thing is, I tried playing the MSX first a while back, and ran into a problem which has cropped up again...being stuck!
First time I played the MSX2 version of Snatcher, I got stuck where Gaudi wouldn't offer me the option of doing the montage to identify Gibson's murderer. This time around, that didn't happen, but now I'm stuck where Ivan Rodriguez is never home!
What is the deal? I went back to Outer Haven and had Isabelle identify the perp with the montage photo, talked to everybody in Outer Heaven about Gibson and the mystery man (at least I think so)...I'm totally at a lose!
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Try going home for once and talk to Jamie on the Videophone. In the Sega CD and PC engine versions, I've found that I couldn't progress the story that far unless I speak to Jamie at least once before I go to Ivan Rodriguez' house.
Even if you return to the boss' office, he'll say you should take a break and stop by your apartment and call your wife.
At least, even if your don't stop by the apart', try calling Jamie (I don't know if it is possible to call her without checking her number on the back of her photo).
When you return to Ivan's house this time, he should be home as if by magic.

In the Mega/Sega CD version, you can phone Jamie without looking at her photo, Gillian will read out Jamie's number, and Metal will comment that you've already phoned her.
You can also just hang up straight away, you don't actually need to talk to Jamie, just phone her.

Woops. I reiterate what I said. Looks like it's only useful for the Sega Cd and PC Engine versions.
These versions are a bit more user-friendly than the MSX version, since they tell you a little more about what direction to take. For example, the chief's help in the MSX version consists in repeating redundant information about Gaudi and telling you to ask him if you're stuck. The problem is, when I ask him, he tells me to use Gaudi and to ask him if I'm stuck. Repeat ad infinitum and you get the picture... (looks like the chief doesn't really want you to progress... that makes sense if you think about it)
I tried it in the MSX version and also got stuck at that point. Still trying to figure out what exactly has to be done to get through Ivan's door... don't tell me I have to examine and look and talk at everything in the game (!).
"Shall we leave?"

Ok, I'm stuck in the MSX version of Snatcher again. I cannot get Gaudi to allow me to make a montage. I've asked Isabella every question a million times. I've talked to the chief, Harry, Mika, Catherine and asked all the questions. I've tried calling Jamie and Napoleon but they do not answer. Any idea what I need to do to get past this?

Well let's go backwards, in order to make a montage Isabella needs to give you a description, you can only do this after showing her Gibson's photo (twice). Is there a step you're missing here? I was thinking maybe not triggering the crow scene in the MSX version prevents progress earlier than it does on Sega CD but if you spent enough time with Catherine I can't see you not triggering it.

I've already talked to Isabella and gotten all the descriptions needed for the montage. I've also talked to all the other people in Outer Heaven. However, when I go to Gaudi there is no option to make a montage. I've gone back to Joy Division and talked with the shop clerk who says a Chinese man came in and bought up all the sunscreen. I've talked to everyone and asked every question 10 times. I've shown the pieces of evidence to everyone. Getting very frustrated...
Also, when I go to Altamira it keeps saying to call Napoleon but he never picks up when I call. What gives?

IIRC if you're IN Alton Plaza / Altamira Napoleon will not pick up, you need to call him elsewhere then promptly show up
as for the option not showing up in GAUDI, I dunno, sounds like a pain in the ass. I'll go fire up BlueMSX or something

I've called him from every area and he doesn't answer. Can't call from Outer Heaven because of Snow 9 or whatever you call it in this version, Minovsy particles.

turns out I was wrong and you CAN call him from Altamira in the MSX version, I just did it after accidentally sending him away immediately after meeting him. oops.
Anyway, all I had to do to get Gaudi to let me make a montage is ask Isabella about "the man's" features. after asking about them all Metal says we can make a montage using GAUDI. Gaudi then has a montage option (1).
If you really asked her all this JUNK (hehe) and you still can't build the montage... I don't know?

I've asked about his features at least 6 or 7 times and I never get an option to make a montage. Looks like I'm screwed because I have done absolutely everything there is to do and I'm stuck. Thanks for trying to help though.

You could always upload a savestate so that one of us could jump to exactly where you are at.

Sorry, just now saw your response. That's a great idea! Unfortunately I cannot for the life of me find where the save states are. I've looked all through the emulator folders and I cannot located the save state files anywhere. I've searched and searched for the .sta files and nothing. If you could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Finally got it to work. Not sure what I did that I hadn't already done 20 times but at least I'm finally past the montage part. So far I like this version a lot, although I am playing it with the speed turned up. A bit too slow for me after playing the Sega CD version so many times.

The only reason I have little regret denouncing the msx version
...
However I have played the MSX version many times. Maybe I'm a masochist?

These loading times are nothing compared to
THE-GAME-I-SHOULD-NOT-SPEAK-OF-WHICH-CAME-OUT-IN-2006, which actually gave me PTSD.
