Game of the year?

I'm just wondering what everyone's considerations are for game of the year so far, or what you might think game of the year will be for a title that's not yet released. The three strongest contenders I've seen are God of War, Resident Evil 4, and Shadow of the Colossus. No original suggestions, but that doesn't mean they're not deserved of their reputed praise.

Resident Evil 4 or Devil May Cry 3 without a doubt, two amazing Capcom games, which in my opinion deserve it, RE4 will win it, but i would like DMC3 to have

This year being 2005 rather than October 2004-October 2005, I'd say either Resident Evil 4 or killer7. RE4 has the advantage of purely brilliant gameplay, but killer7 seems like such a unforgettable experience. They both make my all-time top 10 list.

Are we talking about a specific award show or our own personal picks?
If we're talking about personal picks, I've got to go with Psychonauts. One of the first non-MG games that I actually felt compelled to finish. Some of the best level design I've seen in a long time. Plus, it was funny without being stupid. Just an all around quality game, in my opinion.
GTA: SA was great, too, don't get me wrong, but it was going for something completely different.
Killer 7 wins award for best game to "give me nightmares" and "best game with bondage guy who creeps me the holy hell out" as well as the coveted "unable to complete first level because of an unshakeable feeling of dread" award.

RE4 has definately been one of my favorite games of all time, so it would get my vote.

I was asking everyone what their personal choices were. The DS has had a lot of great releases this year. While nothing has really shook the gaming world, I think Nintendo has definitely solidified the concept of using two screens asa part of gameplay. That in part is why I'm anxiously awaiting what they'll dish out with the Revolution.
All in all, a good year for games, especially since I was kind of letdown on a lot of 2004's releases.

Personally, I think the DS has actually had quite a slow year, but the following few months will really show some great games for it (Mario Kart DS, Viewtiful Joe: Double Trouble, Metroid Prime: Hunters, Resident Evil: Deadly Silence). I have high hopes for the DS, still, but without Ouendan and Jump Superstars being brought over here, I feel the PAL market is dying.

The DS has had a much better year than the PSP. Liberty City Stories is the one title that is of any interest to me, but even that I don't feel warrants purchasing the system. Hopefully this Metal Gear Solid BD and rumored Resident Evil title (that will play like RE4 and star a grown-up Sherry Birkin in Raccoon City) will redeem the system, but you can't expect the world from a digital comic and, as of now, a purely speculative title.

That's the first I've heard of that. Raccoon City was bombed in RE3, would there be much to do there?
And as for the PSP, I thought that Lumines, GTa:LCS, Burnout Legends, Ridge Racers, Virtua Tennis and Everybody's Golf were all really good releases. With games like Every Extend, Exit, Minna Daisuke Katamari Damacy, Street Fighter Alpha 3: Double Upper, Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror, GTaPSP2 and Extreme Ghosts and Ghouls still coming out, I feel that there's a good future for the system.

I don´t suppose that Capcom are making that rumored RE game since they are developing Resident Evil Deadly Silence(or just Resident Evil DS) and i guess anyone knows about the game

That doesn't mean much. Outbreak File 2 and GameCube RE4 were in development at the same time.

Yeah but just look at how Outbreak File 2 turned out

I got to play Xbox 360 King Kong yesterday and that knocked my socks off. It was like a first-person-perspective version of Resident Evil 4 (they have similar gameplay mechanics and such), and the level I played perfectly captured the spirit of the Village section of RE4. Didn't get to play as King Kong, though, but the game may end up being on of the surprises of this year.
