I guess youguys all have seen, heard or talked about the revolution controller. i found it quite interesting, and covering the areas I expected. Of course the video, if you haven't seen the video and only the screens, you haven't seen a thing, can be seen as major hype. And I do believe it does have some hype in it. But I just read an article from someone that put what I believed into tangible words

The author makes a lot of good points. My opinion on the situation is that I just flat out don't like the design.
But I've been wrong about game related issues in the past. I'm sure at some point I'll give the controller a shot and I'll probably be surprised by it. Only time will tell.
But I'm still buying a 360 first.
P.S.: For a good laugh about the controller, check out this VGCats comic:

I felt the same indeed. but it might be, not a big splash, but quite fresh. We'll see.

I like it, at then end of the day, if Nintendo want to be fresh this is really something they need, one point i was shown, if you turn it on its side its pretty much a NES controller, perhaps that will come in useful for downloading the NES games

The difference to the other systems means that it'll get barely any ports. A good second console, if you ask me.

The only thing that worries me is how will the controller feel when you hold it in your hand. Will it control as easily as a two-handed controller? With the way the D-pad is set up from the A and B buttons, it would seem pretty awkward switching from one to the other, since they look too far apart. However, if the D-pad were only to be used for old 2D Nintendo games, and you would instead use the analog attachment for all 3D games, then it might not even be an issue.

I found a quote from Kojima about the controller in the UK version of Nintendo Official Magazine-
Hideo Kojima wrote:"You've done it" was my [first] impression. This was totally unexpected. I was pleasantly surprised because the controller is something quite comfortable, yet provides something brand new. The Famicom defined the modern controller. It made us control games using the A and B buttons, holding the controller with both hands and facing the TV monitor. We have been doing this for 20 years now and this premise will be changed significantly. Even though it was a surprise at first, once I touched the controller, I quickly understood how it should be used - much like the controller of your TV. This is exactly what I was looking for.
That's made me 97% sure that the will be a Kojima Productions game on the Revolution at some time.

There was no doubt in my mind as to whether Kojima would be making games for the system. All the big designers have been very excited at the possibilities this controller gives them. I don't think Nintendo will have as much trouble with third-party support this time around.

Unless you can use a GC controller for Revolution games I would think 3rd party developers would be reluctant to port their games to work well with the system's unique controller.

AC!D team? That's a bit of a downer, but no doubt, Kojima will want to play a bigger role on this than he did on AC!D.
As for ports? I'm sure EA will try to. They always make the most bog standard ports possible (look at their DS Sports games). Most others will only port FPS games and Sword Fighting games, though as they won't have to do much except change the control method.

I agree. However, I wasn't talking about ports. I'm saying that developers will be excited to create
original titles that take advantage of the controller's functions.

In a simular vein, I know there's a good few killer7/Suda fans around here, so I thought I'd post this-
IGN.com wrote:Kouichi Suda (president of Grass Hopper Interactive, the studio behind Killer 7): "In truth, I have yet to get my hands on Revolution," Suda admits, but adds that he expects to get some hands on time shortly. Once he saw the controller at the product announcement, he felt that there was no choice but to make games for it. "I've already finalized a plan. Now, all that remains is to make it." Judging by Suda's comments, we can probably add Grass Hopper to the list of Revolution developers.
I'm certain that I'll own a Revolution.

I was watching Attack of thw Show last night (a television program on G4) and they were showing videos of a guy who had modded a Revolution-like controller to play first-person shooters on the PC, and it really looked impressive. Obviously, the remote would aim your weapon, while you'd move around with the analog attachment. I love the idea of playing games like that just from seeing that short little video. A true revolution indeed.

It's been said in the latest EGM that designers who've had an oppurtunity to work with the Revolution's hardware are saying that the spec's are barely more powerful than those of the GameCube (which adds even more to the rumor that the new Zelda game will be released for the Revolution and not GameCube). I'm disappointed to say the least. Innovation is fine, but it makes no sense to upgrade consoles solely for the convenience of this new controller, even if it will be affordable.

Were they playing Tech Demos, or actual 'to-be-released' games? I know that most of the Tech Demos were based on existing GameCube code (one is a section from Metroid Prime 2, for example).

I believe we're talking about the system specs. These are developers who've received dev-kits, and they're saying that it's barely anymore powerful than the GameCube.

That's really disapointing. You'd think that they'd upgrade the thing just a little bit spec-wise but no. Then again though, launch for the thing is still a ways off...

Speaking of interactivity, has anyone else recieved the Eyetoy demo disc in the mail from PS underground? It has a pretty interesting tech demo showing usage of a light gun, and a virtual sword (king's field style). Although I'm giving any of my support to Nintendo, becuase it seems the support for the eyetoy has dimmed over the past years.

You might as well look at it as a modified GameCube. Of course, I have nothing against the hardware as long as developers will want to make original and exciting titles for it, but with the technology both Sony and Microsoft are sporting, is Nintendo's controller really enough to win them over? I doubt it very much.
