Awesome pics! That red/blue lighting on Napoleon looks cool as hell!

I've always wanted to revisit Earthbound again. It was a favorite of mine when I was a kid.

There are tons of Sega CD Snatcher video playthroughs on youtube. An MSX video or even a Saturn or Playstation video plathrough would be much more interesting and needed in my opinion. Just a friendly suggestion of course.

I honestly wouldn't mind doing a video runthrough of MSX Snatcher, especially considering the lack of videos of the MSX version, if it weren't for several reasons
1. The MSX version isn't complete.
2. Interface less Streamlined in the MSX version, which makes it harder. When taking this new batch of pics, I got stuck again because look/checking doesn't "take" the object, and while it's usually obvious what you have to take, it didn't occur to me that I had to "take" the picture of Red Square.
3. The MSX version loads really slow. My Configuration in BlueMSX is set so I'm using the "Rig" of an MSX Turbo, which helps loading a bit. It's still irritating despite this, I think it has longer loads than SDSnatcher (which I've never finished :c).
4. Snatcher MSX uses multiple disks. Since I use the emulator's built-in video recorder for all videos I make, I'm not sure how the recorder would react to me switching disks in the middle of recording.
5. The MSX version has the grammar that goes all over the place from Decent english, to some that are oddly phrased, to just sloppy at points ("I've located a possibly Snatcher Man!" and one recurring line of text is in Portuguese, which lead to my initial belief that the translator was originally Portuguese, though according to Artemio that's false). Aside from at least one point where the game claims that Jamie is saying something that I'm pretty sure Gillian is saying, the Sega CD localization is very well done.

Enough of this crap, time for more Snatcher pictures, now with more dialogue and blue~!

I got some good news and bad news.
Good: This is the final batch! I've finished the game~! I stopped right when the credits started, so no pictures of the credits.
Bad: Despite getting most available pictures (which was the point to begin with) and a good amount of text as bonus, I started rushing through with the fast-forward that was hacked in, and carelessly missed a few shots. Oh well, I still got most if not all the shots anyone could want, so BAM!

Let's find out who the Snatcher is! Oh btw I found another line of text that's in Portuguese! All you need to do is look at a closed door! Also works if you try to go into it. I either didn't take a screenshot, or found it unneeded during my "2nd draft", where I take out pics I deem either unneccessary due to being like another picture with similar text, but less, or pictures that serve no purpose.

As Solid Snake says in at least one translation of Metal Gear 2, "Damn! Late once again!"

And thus we reach our conclusion. Due to a rushed schedule, Kojima's cyberpunk masterpiece was published with a dark and depressing cliff hanger. We find Snatcher-ham, who has taken Mika hostage, and dispose of him. After giving us a farewell in what I assume is Russian (as Russian letters are used in the PC88 version) and his power fades, we witness a pan-up of Junker HQ and see Mika crying over Harry's body, and Gillian declaring that the fight has just begun.
BONUS: A few links of the PC88/MSX versions (which are identical aside from different sound and the MSX picture being cutoff on the left side) to make up for my missed shots and me not doing an MSX runthrough.

Opening
MSX http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kubM0RjGwds

Ending

PC88 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnQYdrWugs0

And this Channel has a bunch of PC88 videos and a vid of the MSX version on actual hardware.

by best name ever
Didn't know the MSX version had that monologue about doubt at the end of the game, it would probably sound pretty epic if the translation was halfway decent

Love this picture at the end!

Anyone else finding Gillian calling Harry "Daddy" hilarious? Or just me?

Yes it is rather silly, but I think that's simply how Japanese works, as it's a term of endearment. Kinda like how in the Japanese version of MOTHER, the enemy known as Wally in the Prototype version and Hillbilly in the GBA retranslation is apparently called Uncle, and the bag lady is called Aunt.

Fixed for more cool.

The MSX2 version says "Goodbye." The PC-8801 version says "I wish you luck/success", but it's spelled wrong.

Not quite, If you look really closely you can see that the PC-88 and MSX2 versions use a slightly different colour pallet.
Some shots are also slightly different, like how the abandoned factory is pictured from a different angle.

PFFFHA! Expecting me to know the complete differences between a version I've played and a version I haven't!
....
Then again I could always actually watch those videos huh?
But anyway, it's nice to see this again after almost a year.

Well, I was just sayin' so other people would know.

Anyway, you could play it in a PC-88 emulator.
M88 is the best, although it doesn't take screenshots.
The "Snapshot" feature is actually for savestates, which is helpful because you it can't modify the Disk image in order to save.
PC88WIN is a good one too.

If you're interested, shoot me up a PM.
I'll be glad to give information.

I'd totes be interested, but I'd probably not play the PC-88 version for the same reason I quit playing the PS1 version back then, and it wasn't the music: I can't read that crazy runespeak that some call "Japanese".

But hey um.... if anyone is planning to translate the PC-88 version..... I'm open to testing.....

<.<
Just putting that out there ;)

You know of Moonspeak!!? Who told you of it!? Its absolute secrecy was left in the secure hands of ancient computer games!
How do you know?

Okay, here's my take of it.
If you know the MSX version, you wont have a problem with the PC-88.
It's really not all that hard. Of you know what button does what, and as long as you vaguely remember what they're saying, you won't have a problen. Also, If you do end up taking this on, I'll be glad to give information like what commands are what, what you have to do, what settings you should be using, etc...
Seriously, any way I can help.

I'm not tryin' to push anything; I'm just sayin'.

If I had more technical experience I'd be all over the PC-88 version for translation.
I'd need more help for it to be any good, of course.

Yeah, whops. I got mixed up there. PC88WIN is the one that doesn't take screenshots.

Yeah, M88 is much better. The only thing PC88WIN has over it is the ability to display what keys are being used in the music.
You did get that PC-88 stuff I sent you, right?

Also does anyone know if M88 allows you to disabled the scanlines?
The text in the menus is allways garbled for me.

Yeah you can switch it off:

If it helps you can grab an English version of M88: http://fullmotionvideo.free.fr/phpBB3/v ... ?f=4&t=379

Although if you want the latest version then you should try and get the M88 Kai+ builds (latest is 2012-02-04)

Do want. Got any links?

Also, just beat the PC-88 version of Snatcher for the first time today. It was a great game, as allways.
It's official, I've finished every version of Snatcher.

Dave (Right? That's what I gather from the SagesOfL33T YouTube Channel; you said you did the MOTHER playthrough.),
I'll be happy to give you any information that you need to finish this great game incoded in moonspeak.
You know, passwords and the such.

Just tried the PC-88 version out for a test drive and I already encountered a rather minor problem. We'll it's pretty big since the game won't progress but it was fixed easily. Early versions you had to switch between multiple disks, and m88 has two "disk drives".
After the intro where Gillian is introduced is the first disc change. The only thing I could make out was a 4 and a 2 among all the weird squiggles. Since normally the small text at the beginning is the person speaking I ignored the meaning of this 4. What the game is TRYING to tell me is to put disc 4 into drive 2 I think but I didn't know this so I replaced the PROGRAM disc with disc 2 .... and without warning I'm flooded with text!
I just felt like sharing this slightly amusing first time experience with you all.
