November 26th marks the 20th anniversary of Snatcher.
It was first released 20 years ago in 1988 on Japanese PC-8801 computers.

I wonder if Kojima himself realises?

Unfortunately, as much as I have nothing against the Metal Gear franchise, I have a feeling that its popularity may have taken its toll on Kojima, and why it's kept him from focusing on other projects for so long.
When the original MG game was released, a sequel was the last thing that Kojima thought of. If it wasn't for that train ride in the Tokyo Subway that convinced him to do a sequel, he never would have continued the franchise.
And if it wasn't for the popularity of the Playstation, the franchise would have never continued either. That, plus the fact that Policenauts would have only been released on the PC98 and 3DO.

Honestly, I don't think you need to worry about Kojima forgetting about Policenauts, heck, it's most likely his favourite of his works (he's hinted at it a lot in the past) added that to the fact that Kojima said in the past that if there was still a market for adventure games, he would still make them, since he has been pressed on making another adventure game in the same style as Policenauts or Snatcher again. I do think he's sort of forgotten about Snatcher, though, that's my main concern. I do think he'll go back to making another adventure game in the future, but it will be quite far down the line, since he claims his next title will be an action game that he's wanted to make for many years now (ever since MGS2, in fact, if I can recall rightly). We'll see what the future holds for his career and what he decides to do now that his involvement with the MGS series is over with.
