Original title of "OutRun 2019" a Snatcher ripoff?

I was browsing Wikipedia and came across this little tidbit in the Outrun 2019 article- the original Japanese title of it was "Junker's High". Very peculiar, seeing as how the game is a futuristic racer where you drive a car that looks suspiciously like a turbocycle. Here's an ad for the game:

My opinion? The producer of the game must have been a big Snatcher fan. ;)

Outrun 2019 was a fun game, and I do see a lot of similarities in the poster...it's a bit hard to tell when you're playing OR2019, though. When was 2019 released?

Wiki says it rolled out in 93.

Weird, isn't the whole "Junker" thing part of the IP (intellectual property) of Konami, due to Snatcher being their game.

I'd think that using any reference to another's IP (even in the title- tho the game play is not related)would mean that one has to pay some rights fee. That is if Junker's High is really a Snatcher TurboCycle take off.

I could not make a commercial game like Cloud's Dating Sim (FF7) and have that character's likeness all over it and get away with Square Enix not suing my ass.

Still good find!

In the creative communities of the world (VG making is for sure one of them) there is alot of 'cross pollination' influence of one item, that ppl like (other game makers included), into the product outcome of another.

I'd only believe a direct link if they had a cut scene where Harry was the mechanic of your racing vehicle... :P
