1-UP wrote:The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu magazine features an interview with the creator of the Metal Gear series Hideo Kojima.

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the series, Kojima looks back during his early days at Konami. "The company told me to make a war-themed game for the MSX2. At that time, Capcom's Commando was really popular in the arcades. Although to be honest, I did not want to make a war-themed game. So I came up with a game concept like the movie The Great Escape where players would try to escape from prison without using any weapons."

Despite his concept, without much help from other staff members, Kojima was ready to call it quits with the company. "One day, my older co-worker asked me 'what type of game do you want to make?' I insisted on The Great Escape game. So he told me to write up a concept proposal, and when he read it, he told me he has not seen this type of game before. He negotiated with our boss and finally the project was given the go signal. He was really a great guy, actually he was the man behind Gradius."

Sounds like good old times. Kojima Productions is celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Metal Gear with its upcoming release of the Metal Gear Solid Collection, as well as a Metal Gear 20th Anniversary Party on July 24th in Japan. A new demonstration of Metal Gear Solid 4 using actual PS3 hardware will be shown at the party, so looks like it's almost certain we will see something new on the game very soon.
I can buy it and provide scans (or at least photos) next week, but I can't translate sorry.

Yeah, I saw it so didn't bother posting the photos. I probably should have mentioned it.

I still might put up the Snake vs Zombie stuff from Famitsu Wave, as it seems to have different stuff from the video that appeared on the internet recently.

Interesting interview.

It actually gives me a chill down my spine. He's so confident that everything will be explained, and sounds so happy that everything came up together in the end...

And when you're too confident, it's the moment you do a false step. I mean, I remember the interviews, and the mood in 2001 - it was painful to even think at that staff and the amount of work. Almost sent them crazy, but the result was a masterpiece.

Now the atmosphere is very relaxed - besides the lack of vibration, I haven't heard a single technical complaint, so the hardware must be powerful enough to satisfy every needs they have...

I just hope MGS4 will be a worthy successor of MGS2.

I'm willing to bet MGS4 absolutely will have vibration. A new SIXAXIS is all but confirmed now, and the game isn't due for another 7 months yet.

Well, it most likely explains why they held off the release date for so long (it could very well be one of the reasons at least, there'll be other reasons too, of course). We all know that Kojima has a sort of fetish for the rumble feature, hehe.
