I can buy it and provide scans (or at least photos) next week, but I can't translate sorry.1-UP wrote:The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu magazine features an interview with the creator of the Metal Gear series Hideo Kojima.
Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the series, Kojima looks back during his early days at Konami. "The company told me to make a war-themed game for the MSX2. At that time, Capcom's Commando was really popular in the arcades. Although to be honest, I did not want to make a war-themed game. So I came up with a game concept like the movie The Great Escape where players would try to escape from prison without using any weapons."
Despite his concept, without much help from other staff members, Kojima was ready to call it quits with the company. "One day, my older co-worker asked me 'what type of game do you want to make?' I insisted on The Great Escape game. So he told me to write up a concept proposal, and when he read it, he told me he has not seen this type of game before. He negotiated with our boss and finally the project was given the go signal. He was really a great guy, actually he was the man behind Gradius."
Sounds like good old times. Kojima Productions is celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Metal Gear with its upcoming release of the Metal Gear Solid Collection, as well as a Metal Gear 20th Anniversary Party on July 24th in Japan. A new demonstration of Metal Gear Solid 4 using actual PS3 hardware will be shown at the party, so looks like it's almost certain we will see something new on the game very soon.
