Fantasy Zone

Fantasy Zone's an old gem from Sega. Originally an arcade game released in 1986, it was ported to numerous home consoles. It's a shooting game where all the enemies are all cute looking and stuff. Because of this, the game's been jokingly referred to as a "Cute 'em up", according to Wikipedia, but of course Wikipedia can't always be trusted. That sounds like a good way to describe it though. I have it on the NES and the TG16. Both versions are great. The NES version is easier, but the TG16 one is more superior. My NES cart seems to be a bit defective, randomly freezing at random points, but I just recently got it, so I might have to buy another one if this keeps up. The name of the spaceship you pilot is called "Opa Opa". Talk about a "WTF?" moment! Opa Opa was also a supporting character in a japanese anime called "Zillion".

Yeah, great game. I recommend Super Fantasy Zone for the Mega Drive. Really addictive music.

That's my favourite version of the brilliant game, bar none.

I've only played the remake on (the fairly crappy) Sega Classics Collection. Seems good fun.

It is. If you have a TG16, that version is probably the most arcade-perfect one you can find. I wonder if Twinbee inspired this, since it's another cutesy shooting game and all.
