They haven't released anything from the Sega/Mega CD yet, so I doubt we'd see it for a while (if ever). WOOMB.net said that they were in talks with Nintendo to see if they could release translated MSX games on the VC, but I'll be surprised if they ever get anywhere with it. There's very little chance of any other versions coming to the VC.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't Snatcher be too big for the VC?

yes Marc, you are right,. It is too big for the VC.

Like 87th said they've announced MSX games to be released on the VC. The obvious choice is going to be konami games including both metal gear and metal gear 2:solid snake. Both being Hideo Kojima games could also mean a MSX version may be released, albiet in japan only...
As for the Sega CD version, perhaps it is too big
The sega CD version would be the obvious choice as the Snatcher vesion to appear on the VC because its the only one that's been translated.

A direct CD dump would be too big for the Wii's 512MB memory (you can use SD cards too, but that's just for backing up data), but surely compression would be able to get around that? It would still be a huge file, considering the average size of the games so far. I don't imagine that Nintendo or Konami would ever bother with it. At a long shot, they might release it to coincide with Project 'S' (assuming, as always, it has something to do with Snatcher), but that's a hell of a long shot.

I'm sure they're going to have compression of some kind. I mean, Symphony of the Night's being released on Xbox Live Arcade and all, so I don't see any reason as to why they couldn't compress Snatcher down to be a semi-painless Wii download.

Yes there is compression. But, for example, symphony of the night just gets smaller by 100 MB.. which is still big enough (ends up as 500 MB)
Snatcher is in reality 128 MB, which can compress down to 100 in average. But, that doesn't include music at all (the red book audio I mean). The cd audio weights 450 MB more... If you compress it using a lossless scheme, you go down to 200 MB. I wouldn't even think of lossy compression (Mp3 sounds like shit), but if you go that way and believe that they would implement the audio as mp3 and make the emulator handle that, you end up with a 200 MB in total VC download. Which is 50% of the Wii's storage. I would say that is completely out of the question.
Thinking realistically, it won't be released anywhere. But if it ended up somewhere, only the PS3 or the 360 have the storage to have it.

We'll always have the original versions at the end of the day.

^ But airing the game out there is always nice isn't it?

^That was the whole point of this topic, not to beat down the dream

If Sony speed up with their releases, I'd consider the idea of PSone Snatcher appearing on their PS3 downloads section quite likely (In Japan, anyway). Doubt it'll appear on the Wii or 360, though.

I certainly could see the untranslated MSX version being released for Japan's VC. Forget about it coming here, though. Playing Snatcher with the Wiimote would certainly be nice...would make those shooting sequences a little easier...

Sorry for the double posts, but MSX games have been confirmed for Japan (allongside Neo Geo ones)

If they come to America/Europe, I'd be amazed if they didn't add MetalGear (probably the original European version though). There's a small chance that WOOMB might get Konami to add the reworked Subsistence versions of MG1+2, though.

How come only Japan and Europe get the MSX games? Just because it originally only came out in those two countries shouldn't mean that it can't be on the VC in North America!!!!!

Where did you hear the games were coming out in Europe? They're certainly not on the Virtual Console, yet.
I don't think they've been put on the Japanese VC yet, either. (I could be wrong about that, though)
I'm pretty sure that they'll get an American release, if they get a European release.
