IGN.com wrote:Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops is heading to Australian shores in April, 2007, several months after the US release date. The wait could have been worth it, with news that the PAL version will contain additional content.
According to the press release that we received today, this content will take the form of new maps, characters and missions. A total of twelve new characters have been introduced to the game, though details about these new characters are thin on the ground.
Another area to get a revamp is the existing character careers. These have now been expanded, to provide more of a focus on their key attributes, such as strength or athleticism.
The game's multiplayer component has also received a boost, with two new maps bringing the total map count up to ten. Finally, an entirely new mode will be included for lucky PAL users, entitled "Boss Battle". According to the info we have, this mode rewards players "with new recruitable characters on offing one of the game's larger adversaries".
While delayed PAL releases are becoming a rarity, the added content within our version means the wait won't hurt so much.
I'm guessing the game will get the same release in Australia as Europe. I've got the American version already, so unless they add some really exciting bonus characters (I mean REALLY exciting, like Holly White, Gillian Seed or even Dan Smith, since Kojima and Suda are such good friends, now) I doubt I'll bother with this version.

Well me and Gaff have no other choice, since we are both getting the European version. Are you from Europe yourself, Eighty Seventh?

Yes, and you do have a choice. The PSP's regionless, you know?

Didn't Ryan Payton tell European gamers to buy the US version so they wouldn't have to wait (I don't know if he mentioned the inclusion of bonuses at the same time, though)? See, now that's how you should do it, Sega. I wouldn't import the EU version just for this, but I suspect some people there who imported the US version will pick this one up too.
And didn't they also say the release date was going to be September (now it's April)?

Who else sees a Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops:Subsistency(or whatever) coming out for NA?
I will be importing the UK MPO if there isn't some sort of special edition coming out here.

Well I don't have a PSP yet, but I will be getting one, hopefully, in May sometime (for my birthday) along with this game if all goes well.

The game seems to be doing pretty well so I'd say it's pretty likely, especially if more NTSC gamers complain about the PAL exclusives.

Do you think it will have the cut cut-scenes, such as the 'commense the inauguration of FOXHOUND' one, etc?

Yeah, it even outsold The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess in Japan!

Not really, didn't the Wii sell out?
And has anyone listened to the most recent Kojima Productions? It's old, but new to me, and they made a big deal about the Euro cover image.

If it's anything like Europe, they might have made too few copies of Twilight Princess to go around, too (it was in the mid 30s of the chart last week, but a new pressing made it around number 9 this week, I think).

Okamura said the game is currently sold out across Japan and is being reprinted right now.
And I don't believe any hype that comes from Kojima's office anymore. Not after they hyped up the MGS3 Extreme boxset only to have it royally blow (arrggh and the price, too!).

Wii was released the 2nd December. MPO was released the 21th December. It´s ture that Wii outsold (it even outsold the PS3). Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess sold "139,011 during its first two days in Japan." MPO sold "178,370 copies in Japan in the first 3 days" I can´t recall the excat numbers of Wii´s releasd in Japan at launch though.

There are other areas that need to be addressed before they decide to tack-on a few bonus features lacking from the US release. Whether they will or not is hard to say -- especially considering that a sequel to PO is apparently already in the works.

A game being sold out these days says nothing. There's marketing in printing an amount of copies that won't satisfy demand as it'll lead people who normally wouldn't have cared to think it might be interesting due to it having warranted enough attention to be sold out.
Regarding the release, it's nice to see MGS: PO finally being released in Europe. Too bad the PSP has nothing else going for it. MGS: PO on its own does not justify the $300 price tag (same goes for the PS3/MGS4, although technically I did drop $500 on a PS2 back in the day to play MGS2... but my opinion on MGS has taken an enormous dive since).

Well MPO2's still unannounced, so they're certainly holding out for something (probably the PAL release, at the moment). I think the most likely way that the PAL exclusives will get to the NTSC market is through a Japan-exclusive "International" version, though.

Possibly n00b-esque question - Did you guys ever get Saga Vol. 1?

I've seen it but I didn't get it. It was okay, mistranslations aside (it was one staff member who Kojima met on the train who inspired him to make MG2, not the whole team on the train). It seemed like a real opportunity to put all never-before-known info into it, given the access they have, but most of it was old info. Nice graphics, though.

They claim, that it´s been released via the platinium edition of MGS3: Snake Eater, in Gremany. But i haven´t spotted it, in Gremany, so...

Saga was worth it for the bit about The Boss' original "jiggling/laughing snake on tit" fighting tactic.

Very nice looking. Shame it breaks the tradition of Shinkawa covers, though.
