Again, your absolute best test is to take your copy of Policenauts, rip to ISO, burn to CD-R.

If you can play the Japanese version on hardware, you can play the Translation Patch.

Btw, does Policenauts works on this NTSC US PS model? With a modded trick, of course....
It should. But you need to be able to boot backups. I've gone with this shop recently for PS2 stuff. They ship out quick to the U.S. from Canada: http://www.gocybershopping.com/customer ... =14&page=1

Awesome.

I'm asking this mostly because I remember wanting to play the japanese MGS1, but the game didn't start by any means, and someone said it was because a BIOS thing. Its been years since then, so maybe this has changed. I'm actually considering buying a PSX/one only because of Policenauts so I want to make sure to get the respective equipment.

Oh, and by the way, it was mentioned that Marc was working on some features not included on tha game. Does that relate somehow to making use of Namco's Guncon pistol? That feature on PSX would be epic, but seems kind of an utopia.

I have a PSone with mod chip, it's been a while since I didn't used him (him! because it's a god damn living being uehueha), but I remember having played Metal Gear Solid both in japanese & english, along with other games (for an instance, mu Bushido Blade is japanese), so I think that it's going to work region free for everybody.

Would it be possible to find a way to distribute the patch privately to forum members, perhaps the night before going public. Not only for the faithful who are here everyday, but to protect us in case Konami decides to take action after the public announcement.

While on 1 hand i doubt Konami would be so malicious as to close the project down after a public announcement, i do think this is a very good idea...you can never have too many contingency plans!

I agree with that idea too! As a matter of fact, I've been stating way far back that if Konami tries to pull anything funny and unfair, that we should fight back in force! but that shouldn't be a problem if the patch is secretly released first and then publicly announced.

I don't think we have to worry though, I think Kojima would feel personally blessed if he heard about the Policenaut's translation project completion and he would shoot down anything Konami might try otherwise. Plus, he'd probably send you a wonderful thankyou present or something cool.

by the way of presents, I found a cool, in the box, mint condition 12 inch Meryl statue from the Metal Gear Solid Konami doll collection in a store nearby for nerds. "The Green Dragon". Only one, and everything else was superhero, comic book, or D&D stuff. almost entirely out of place.

Now I just need a Jonathan Ingram statue.

I'm not sure that that's how Konami would respond to Kojima. Also, I highly doubt that Kojima would be able to react fast enough (he's kinda out of the American loop). On the upside, games like Mother 3 have been translated with no problems, and if Nintendo didn't care about that then I doubt Konami would mind a translation for Policenauts (Nintendo is usually a lot more stingy as far as copyright goes). Also, keep in mind that if the translation team were to agree to distribute the patch for this reason, then they would be publicly announcing illegal action on their own part.

I haven't given a meaningful update in a bit, because there's not terribly much to report. The bug I was working on will not die, so I took a break and turned my attention to our two biggest bugs in terms of manpower, most notably involving very tedious art asset work. (Which is about half done, and it's more relaxing to do tedious work than to bang your head against bugs sometimes.)

So the bad news is the count's still 14.

The good news is that the work I'm doing will knock the count down faster later on.

Jack Stern: Dunno if this solves your MGS import problem, but if you were trying to play Integral, it has a mod-chip lockout. You either need a Gameshark-like thing to plug into your console to put in a code to run it, or you'd have to put it a stealth chip. I've never of BIOS differences stopping imports running on chipped systems -- doesn't mean it couldn't happen I guess but from what I know I'd guess that wasn't your problem.

PN doesn't have a mod-chip lockout btw :) so that's good.

Konami would be blessed when Policenauts get its translation. Why? As for what I have heard, Kojima is making a game related to Snatcher as his new project. Sooooo you launch Policenauts in english, and then BANG! snatcher 2.0 or whatever it is hit the stores just after everybody is playing policenauts. That's not actually bad, it's good for us to get a new (hopefuly) good game and for konami that will be selling more.

You wanna know what is bad and TOTALLY unfair?

Boom, some asshole programmer working for Konami gets slowbeef patch, put the copyrighted translated scripts on Policenauts, and then Policenauts start being sold at PSN for 666 bucks, they start sending cease&desist letters to the translation team to take out the translation patch from the net, and suddenly Policenauts becomes ESA protected and no one can download it.

THAT would be unfair.

Buuuuut, I don't think that Konami would do that. It would be, as Don Cornleone says, "bad business". Bad reputation, fighting the supporters never took any company anywhere except the bankrupcy hall, so... relief, my dear friends. No japanese bombing Pealr Harbor tonight ^^

If you think that ESA protection is the be all/end all, then you've got a LOT to learn.

The translation project got mentioned on some Russian website

My favorite part is how Google translated the following:
Google translation wrote: At some point, a draft translation of "rose" due to the peculiarities of the selected version to translate (psone), and because the game is Dual, and when nakladyvanii patch on the way it was impossible to change the disc. ... But Comrade Slowbeef solved this problem and now takes part in the implementation of the translation in the game.
I'm Comrade Slowbeef now!

(Thirteen to go!)

Very good Comrade Slowbeef.

My wife took Russian in college. That's the literal translation.

There could be additional connotation in colloquial use.

I took Russian in school, too, and these are probably the only words that are left. Okay, there's still достопримечательности :D

Reminds me of a plate in Germany saying:

"Вэнн ду дас лезен каннст, бист ду кайн думмэр Вэсси!"

Which would translate to:

"Иф ю кэн рийд дис, ю ар нот оан оф доз ступид игнорант Вэстернерс!"

I only remember an ax in Vagrant Story with that name, but yes, it is spelled "tovarish".
