Sounds good. I checked out the site, and i liked what i saw. Thanks for the tip!

But i'm a bit unsure about where to start, and what to put in the PSP. Got any more tips and reccomendations?

Wait wait wait. Mega CD Snatcher on PSP? The wait is finally over! Thanking 87th for bringing this to my attention. EDIT: I can't believe how smoothly it emulates. It's faultless.

I went over to pspupdates, but i'm finding it a bit hard to navigate there. I have no idea what files/programs to get, to use that custom firmware, and what to do after that.

I'm gonna look around some more on the website and their forums later, but in the meantime what files/programs did the rest of you get? Figure i should get the same, since the custom firmware seems to be working perfectly for you.

And secondly, i have no idea if it's even possible to get all that to work on MY psp. I have firmware 3.50. Maybe it's too late to get any homebrew to function after that. Also, i have a european (PAL) PSP, if that puts a damper on things.

i think you need a "pandora's battery + memstick" to down-grade your firmware (so you can upgrade it to custom firmwares)

I've been much further on Snatcher with PicoDrive. I recommend you try loading your save and attempting it again. It sounds like a one-off.

Hey guys, I want to defend the GP2X a little here. While emulation in some areas is a lot better on PSP (PSX, N64, GBA for example), the GP2X has better emulation in other areas (NES, DOSBox, MAME, etc.). Secondly, while some may consider having to use AAs in the GP2X as a big negative, I see it as a positive. Instead of having to buy proprietary batteries for high prices, you can go to any store and buy rechargable AAs (that work for everything and last pretty long), and have as many as you need when they die. Also, the SD card format supported by GP2X is better than Memory Stick for obvious reasons. Additionally, while some may dislike the stick on GP2X, I'd say it's about equal to the PSP's pad. There are plenty of mods for both for a reason. :)

Here are my pro's for the GP2X:
-open source; runs linux
-no downgrading/fighting with Sony necessary (many people have 2 PSPs for this reason)
-tv-out
-screen better matches most emulators
-expandable functionality through USB switch with devices such as keyboards, joysticks, etc.

The new PSP Slim (firmware hacked yet?) adds some great stuff like tv-out and slimmer form-factor, but the new GP2X F200 also adds great stuff like a touchscreen and a true dpad.

As you can see, I could probably talk all day about GP2X/PSP differences :) Bottom line though is that the GP2X competes very well with the PSP and choice between the two is just based on which features you prefer.

After you downgrade, you need to google a custom firmware for one of the latest actual firmware. If you just google psp homebrew, you'll find some nice sites, then all you gotta do is use the search bar in the sites and type "custom firmware" this'll bring up a ton of different options, but you'll wanna get the latest one out there. Then just look up instructions on how to install and you're good. If you need help you should go to the AfterDawn forums, they know everything there, so you'd be in good hands.

P.S. Homebrew capable is the way to go, otherwise you won't get all the nice functions which the psp is capable of and that would be a shame.

Whoops forgot to mention. The Hero, you don't need the pandora's battery hack to downgrade your psp. Do you have a copy of Lumines?

in sonys defence (sorry i redgisterd just to mention this)

psp pros
-same size selection of emulators (most if not all gp32 emus have been ported to the psp) + cps2 cps and Neo geo as well as nes snes neo geo cd dosbox and mame)
-PSX emulation on the psp via pops IS NOT 100% EMULATION its more like 15% emulated 85%hardware calls. alot of the chip sets match up so it just interprits the psx games to run nativly on the psp... (why the games run so smoothly)
-longer battery life (based agenst a standerd set of recharable AA's)
-expandablity (fats use ir and you can use a IR Keyboard or even a plug inable motion sensor)
-plugin system makes the UI act like you want it to (remote joy lets you via usb hook it through a pc and play it on the pc screen or use any pc controller to play hte psp games (wii mote to play snatcher anyone?)
- hacking the psp is so simple anyone can do it! just look up pandora and buy a 2nd battery snip it and your good to go. or if you know anyone that has a hacked fat or early slim they can make a temperary pandora and hook ya up.
-built in wifi for wirless network play
-fats have a 8ms lcd slims have the NEW xbr4 style lcd with 2ms responce! next to no ghosting! no kidding!
-skype, GO! Messenger, suport built into the OS

Okay, I'm not sure how well the GP32 runs, but the NES, SNES, and (especially) DosBox emulators don't run too well. On many games the SNES emulator has to slow down (Lion King is a good example). As for the rechargeable batteries, you could buy more than just two, therefore expanding the "battery life" to a great extent. I don't own a GP32, but I can definetly see a lot of pros for getting one. It just never became popular for some reason. Also, I don't think that the psp is open source, which is a big downer for coders.
