I'm actually making it purposefully very hard to patch. In fact, you'll have to solve a series of riddles, each more cunning than the last, in order to play the game.
heh
I think you guys misunderstood
yeah I don't know shit about emulators but I ain't that dumb, I promise. I regularly play Japanese SNES patched isos, with a copier though, on a SNES console.
I know I need to patch the iso and burn another cd, however I'd like a small guide which talks, for examples about which softwares to use to dump the iso and apply the patch, burn the cd etc..
The only software I've ever used is Nero, and only to burn music CDs

Steps:
Code: Select all
1) Insert authentic Policenauts CD1 into drive
2) Use your favorite CD/DVD ripping software to make a bin/cue
3) Profit!
4) Repeat for CD 2
5) Remove CD
6) Insert Rosetta Stone for Japanese Language disc
7) Learn
8) Buy expanded kanji dictionary
9) Learn
10) Play Policenauts in a language you understand

It seems they're closer than ever before!! which is awesome and I am guessing while the bug count continues to dwindle towards alpha stage for both discs, some of the bugs/issues may take a significant amount of hard work before being able to fix them while some could be fixed relatively quickly.
It doesn't seem easy, and I thank the team for their hard work

The motorcycle bug is a lot harder than I gave it credit for - and it's also one that's present in the original game, it turns out! The text routine it uses is - for no good reason that I can see - different from the others. It doesn't intelligently draw the font characters like the rest of the game so the English:
L o o k s s p a c e d o u t
I'm working on that while Marc works on the remaining patch files (7 at last count, but one's really big). It might take me a bit, which is why I've been pretty quiet. Artemio's been making great progress on beta features.
So count is 6 bugs, 7 patches to do. If Marc finishes the patches, and I'm able to playthrough Disc 2 (like I was with Disc 1), I can start auditing and prioritizing bugs a little better, and we'll have a final count of known bugs and beta features.
The count isn't a great metric because even if it gets to zero bugs, we might find some more as we go. At the end of this, we'll have:
0 known bugs.
0 patches to implement.
0 beta features to implement.
As of this moment:
6 known bugs (2 major, 3 intermediate, 1 low)
7 patches to implement (6 small-medium size, 1 very large)
Unknown number of beta features to implement
Two bugs are making the "Alpha" distinction a little tricky. (I.E. technically I could call Disc 1 at Alpha right now if I wanted, but I'd like ALL printed text patched to English before I say Alpha.)
I'm sorry it's not a date, and it's not even a great metric, but it's the best I feel comfortable giving out right now. Things are solidifying though, and I can say that Disc 1 does not require any major development.

And we don´t need a date!
We ´re happy to read some new updates from you guys!
And honestly, I think I haven´t seen anyone updating so much than you, which is a good thing!!
So there is no waiting for month or something like that here, I really like that.

Hey I just registered to tell that I'm excited about this translation, and just as a lot of guys I regularly read on this forum, I've been tracking the development for ages!
This might be the most anticipated patch ever!
I have one doubt, though:
The glorious day the patch is finished (considering the amount of time you spent on it), do you really plan on moving into the Saturn version? I'd love to enjoy it on my modded sat, as well (of course); but refering to my little knowledge... isn't the saturn a nightmare in terms of coding?
blah blah blah blah,
Keep up the good work,
Greetings from Argentina

It is too early to tell. I do have intentions on doing the Saturn version as well, but there is no telling how long that would take.

I have a question! (tried to find an answer on my own, but I have the attention span of a vegetable.)
So...
Will you release the translation patch one disc at a time or all disks at once after all major issues have been fixed?

Both at once. The last thing I would want to do is put you guys in the position I'm in, where I have a pre-Alpha playable Disc 1 that I went through, but can't yet play Disc 2.

When does the split occur? I've only finished the PC-9821 version, so I've not had to switch discs.

Hey everyone. I've been taking night courses while working 8-hour mornings (Which, unfortunately, includes weekends.), so I haven't been throwing my supportive messages in lately. With the few moments I have, I want to say that you're all doing an amazing job. I continue to be amazed at what's being done and the speed at which it's being completed - Truly remarkable.
Thank you very much for what you're all doing.

Hi, I'm new.
I'm so tremendously grateful to everyone involved in this project. I've been wanting to play Policenauts ever since I heard it exists, and reading Slowbeef's LP of the prologue made me fall in love with it on its own.
If half of Kojima's pure unbridled insanity was involved in making this game, I can only begin to imagine the amount of work you have to do, and it makes me wish so badly I had some kind of useful skill I could use to help the project along.
Instead I'm going to stand here cheering and using a distracting avatar while trying not to actually wet myself with the burning anticipation.
So, yeah. Hi.

That'd be a plenty cruel cliff-hanger to throw people into, eh?

As mentioned multiple times before, it is not possible to give a percentage since unknown issues can and do arise all the time.

I started on Disc 2 today. That's good news for me because I have a flight tomorrow and that'll give me some stuff to do on the plane. Besides more coding. Which is, you know, just an effin' blast. Love it. Can't get enough damn assembly in Policenauts. Whew.
Sorry no great updates, but a couple of these bugs are killers.

Here's a teaser of the current work I am making with Policenauts. They are beta features, but since they take some time I am working on them now when I get some free time.
Hope you guys like them, they are not screenshots of course, but pixel perfect rips from the game data. This is what the ASCII art was for (I have them all in ASCII as well =P). I needed to dump tthem in ASCII at first in order to figure out any things we had missed with the game format.
Of course we'll only edit the ones that need translating.
Right now I am working on the program that converts them back to the game format, it is around 60% done so far. I'll be doing the program re-iniserts them in the game's files after that.

Wow!
Maybe it's because I'm used to Kojima games, but the title text doesn't look too Engrishy to me.

Finally. Solved a bug. 5 more known bugs remain on Disc 1.
