Speeding up load times for msx
Speeding up load times for msx
Is there any way to set blueMSX or any other emulator to speed up the load times for snatcher? I know that for PSX emulators it allows you to do frameskip for them automatically. When I played through snatcher the first time through, I used a constant frameskip of 6, which is abominable. If anyone knows how to fix the emulator so that it will automatically load faster, then please help me. It's not that great of an experience if you can't read at 800 wpm.

Have you set it to MSX Turbo R? It helps
.
Unfortunately, I can't help any more than that.

It speeds it up a little, but not too much. I guess I'll just have to play patiently or something. I've beaten it in 1000% CPU mode, so I guess I don't really need to play it again. Still, it's a completely different experience than playing the Sega CD version. Thanks for the help. The Spoony Hou wrote:Have you set it to MSX Turbo R? It helps.

Re: Speeding up load times for msx
I have found the best way is to play the game in NLMSX, which hasn't been updated in five years but still runs the game fine, and overclock the virtual Z80 as fast as your processor will allow. Playing it in a virtual MSX2 setup works just fine. I've found speeding the Z80 up to 9x-12x gives a very playable experience, by almost eliminating the load time and speeding up the text (which is still moving at a slower speed for the original Japanese characters), and yet it leaves the rest of the game, like the music and graphics, running at normal speed, unlike running the whole system at 1000%. You just have to slow it back down to 1x for any shooting sequences, unless you want an instant game over. Hope this helps!

It works really well, but how do I emulate the SCC+ cartridge? Do I need to go find one online or something?8bitsonic wrote:I have found the best way is to play the game in NLMSX, which hasn't been updated in five years but still runs the game fine, and overclock the virtual Z80 as fast as your processor will allow. Re: Speeding up load times for msx
You do that by putting a virtual SCC in a ROM slot. No need to download anything extra. Click the ROM slot, it'll tell you to find the ROM image, hit cancel and it'll bring up a list of virtual hardware, then pick SCC+ and you're done.

Ahh, that works much better. Thanks for the help.
