I'd love to, but I don't have your phone number!MrSeed wrote:Ok everybody,
Here it is. The complete transcription of all voices of the Sega CD Snatcher. Good luck with the translation project. If I could help you with anything more, just give me a call.
MrSeed.
*cough*
Seriously, though, thanks again to you and Reborn from the Ashes (sounds painful!) for this. It's a huge help, and we appreciate the time it took.
It's okay, I'll handle that myself.snatcher1988 wrote:Nicely done, MrSeed. Will there also be a complete transcription of all the voices of the PC Engine CD version, as well?

I agree, although I have to admit, Katrina is easier for me to pronounce.snatcher1988 wrote:I think it should be reverted to the original, just to stay true to the original storyline.

ka-TRIN with a French "r".shidoni wrote:Kass-a-rin?Osiris wrote:What do you guys think -- should Katrina's name be left alone or reverted to the original "Catherine"? (Pronounced the French way, going with "Jean-Jack/Jacques".)
I'm also thinking of changing Jean-Jack to Jean-Jacques, which is what I believe Kojima had in mind (probably in reference to Jean-Jacques Annaud).

Didn't Metal Gear pronounce his name french anyway?
Changing him to Jean Jacques would be fine. I mean...Jean is french too.

Anyway, I wanted to get your opinions on these issues because this translation is for you guys, the hardcore players.
Another one is Chin Shu Oh. I'm probably going to change this to Zhoufeng Chen.

And we appreciate the effort.
I mean, as of now we have three translation projects to look forwart to (Leave aside other Policenauts translations like the Saturn version etc.) all done by hardcore fans for hardcore fans. And I suppose you know the games in and out.
All of a sudden we get bombed with high quality translations.

Now I'm curious. Why's that? Was his name different in the PC Engine version? I always thought I heard Chin Shu Oh.Osiris wrote: Another one is Chin Shu Oh. I'm probably going to change this to Zhoufeng Chen.

Yeah. Jean-Jack always looked weird to me.Osiris wrote:should Katrina's name be left alone or reverted to the original "Catherine"? (Pronounced the French way, going with "Jean-Jack/Jacques".)
I guess Zhoufeng Chen is a proper romanization of the Chinese name, even if it's pronounced more like Chin Shu Oh (a bit like Mao Zedong / Mao Tsé Toung).Charlie Johnson wrote:Now I'm curious. 陳周鳳 is pronounced Chin Shuho in Japanese, but Chen Zhoufeng in Chinese, and since Chen is Chinese, I felt I should go with that. Then Chen Zhoufeng becomes Zhoufeng Chen when you reverse the word order to conform to English (that's the way I prefer to do it, at least for a game).Spike wrote:I guess Zhoufeng Chen is a proper romanization of the Chinese name, even if it's pronounced more like Chin Shu Oh (a bit like Mao Zedong / Mao Tsé Toung).Charlie Johnson wrote:Now I'm curious. So how is it going with the translation?
Is it still coming someday?

The date changes were likely necessary for the game to feel fresh and possible for the people playing it at release, so that early events in the game had not yet transpired.Osiris wrote:I think Snatcher was great for having natural-sounding dialogue, but I agree that its name and date changes were unnecessary.8bitsonic wrote:I agree with all of this; better to do a thoughful, faithful translation than to clean up after the spotty localization of Sega CD Snatcher.
Yes, like the other projects, it's still being worked on during spare time.Solidé wrote:So how is it going with the translation?

I'm just not sure if the date change was even necessary, since the actual game takes place 50 years in the future anyway. It wouldn't have been the first game to reference past events.Letiumtide wrote:The date changes were likely necessary for the game to feel fresh and possible for the people playing it at release, so that early events in the game had not yet transpired.Osiris wrote:I think Snatcher was great for having natural-sounding dialogue, but I agree that its name and date changes were unnecessary.8bitsonic wrote:I agree with all of this; better to do a thoughful, faithful translation than to clean up after the spotty localization of Sega CD Snatcher.

Pushing it too far? Heck, you've already posted links to ROMs, had a spoilerific avatar... nothing you could ever do now would bother anyone here, wouldn't ya say?RandommodnaR wrote:Would it be pushing it too far to ask you who's that individual who's working in the translation as we speak?
It's a guy from Msx.org.
